WASHINGTON — Former stars of the Washington Redskins are circling the wagons to defend the team name.
Gary Clark, Chris Cooley, Mark Moseley, Roy Jefferson and Ray Schoenke make up the steering committee of the new website, RedskinsFacts.com.
Clark, Cooley and Moseley met with trail leaders at the Chippewa Cree Tribe’s Rocky Boy’s Reservation in Montana.
Former tight end Cooley tells The Washington Post he’s talked to more than 1,000 Native Americans without meeting a single critic of the name.
“All the people saying the name is racist; I see them doing nothing to support the Native Americans whatsoever,” Clark tells the Post.
The ad is running on WTOP.com, and the websites of Sports Illustrated, the Washington Times and The Washington Post.
The Oneida Indian Nation responded with a news release of the “Top 10 Facts Omitted From the D.C. Team’s New PR Website.”
